Hampton Court MRS
The Society is a local group that meets at Tolworth Recreation Centre (in the Hunt Hall) in South West London every Sunday evening from around 8pm. New members are always welcome. We have five layouts in three gauges, although our members have a wide variety of interests and we try to cater for all aspects of the hobby.
Layouts.
Central (OO)
The Society's main layout, it is now reaching the end of it's useful life, however it still performs a useful function as a test track for members to try out their new rolling stock. Although set firmly in the Southern's third rail electrified network, a mixture of diesel and electric trains provide frequent services to this busy town.
Muckle Flugga (009)
Our 009 layout. A coastal port is served by small ramshackle railway that run's along the dock front, with a precarious branch along the cliffs to a mine.
Our large OO layout Central has a very modern feel, so the steam era modellers felt that something more suitable was required. The Idea of modelling the S&D appealed as that had a wide range of trains from most regions, and we discovered that the trackplan from West Pennard could, with a few additions, fit the bill. Having started life as an end - to - end layout, it can now be used as a continuous run if required. Members have statrted to refurbish some parts of the layout.
Millbridge Street (EM)
The Society's EM gauge layout has now been gifted to one of our founder members who is moving to the Midlands, in recognition of his services to the Society.
Originally built by a member, and the subject of a series of articles in the magazine Model Railways, the Society acquired the layout for use at our annual exhibition Showtrain as a crowd puller. This layout is home to a certain blue tank engine and his friends! Unfortunately due to space constraints we are unable to store this layout on site at Tolworth.
Society Trips.
The Society organises a number of trips a year and we try to include at least one trip that would be dificult for an ordinary member of the public to attend, these have included:
Sir William McAlpine's Railway at Fawley
The Post Office Rail terminal at Willesden
